Are you ready for the 2010 W.Cup

Unless you’ve been completely cut off from all civilization over the past 5 years, you already know that the 2010 FIFA World Cup is coming to South Africa.
This event is deemed to be the biggest sports gathering of its kind across the globe and next year, the industry says, we will be experiencing the biggest one yet!

South Africa has long since begun preparing for the multitude of foreigners (some 200 000 according to SouthAfrica.net) expected to attend next year’s games. Roads, airports and stadiums are all being expanded to deal with the anticipated influx of international sports fans. According to Local Organising Committee CEO Danny Jordaan earlier this week, the country is moving in the right direction ahead of next’s year soccer, and the LOC is happy with the state of our transport and safety plans.

Keeping these some 200 000 guests safe from harm and ensuring smooth travel between stadiums are very important factors in determining any large-scale sporting event’s success, of course, but surely too is sufficient accommodation?

Where are these superb roads supposed to take the guests if there is nowhere for them to sleep? Johannesburg alone is short of 65 000 beds. North West Province lacks 4 000. Cruise-liners, alternating between Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban, have been called in an attempt to alleviate at least some of the accommodation problem.

But why sleep in a ship when there are so many families happy to not only offer foreign guests a place to sleep in their homes, but to feed them and transport them to games and airports?

, but our company Tour Africa Now (TAN) based in Joburg South Africa has come up with an idea that could help curve this issue.

TAN is a fairly new tour operator/Agent that has been dealing in Home Stay and learn English in Africa for a few years now and has decided to adapt this concept into the 2010 World Cup. Learn English in Africa is a concept whereby students from around the world have the opportunity to come to South Africa and learn English at one of our English schools and at the same time stay with a South African family. By living with a South African family students are encouraged to speak English and learn a little bit about our culture and cuisine.

Home stay for 2010 will work similarly to learn English in Africa, fans will come to South Africa and stay with families where they will be provided a bed, 2 meals a day as well as transport to and from the games and airport pick up and drop off.
